1st Visit

When to schedule a visit:

Your baby's first dental visit should be by the first birthday OR when the first tooth appears.

What to expect:

The first dental visit is a new experience for both parent and child.  Rest assured that a baby's first visit is "quick".

Depending on age, the exam may take place with the child sitting in the parents' lap, the child sitting in a highchair or carseat, and in some cases a child may be comfortable enough to sit in a dental chair alone.

I typically use a toothbrush to assist in the exam and demonstrate proper brushing techniques.

Following the exam fluoride may be applied to the teeth .

Total time: 10-15 min

The next visit

Provided that your child is cavity free the next visit should be scheduled for 6 months after the initial appointment.
